Not sure if you have been following the LLM space or even the emulator handhelds space, but Chinese companies have been doing great with putting out open source software lately.
It obviously has issues, but it’s a novel idea that people are experimenting and having fun with. No need to be disparaging. Something doesn’t have to be immediately “useful” or “viable for commercial use” to be neat.
Ya but there is a wide gulf between maybe “useful” and “steal your data/mess up your life”. Calling it ‘OpenClown’ hurts zero people and effectively raises people’s guardrails. Many people consider LSD ‘neat’, that doesn’t mean that others are wrong to point out dangers.
What happened to… personal responsibility? I hate dark patterns as much as the next person, but this will likely be as effective as the EU’s existing hand wringing (not).
The government (EU in this case) passes a law and a finger goes down on the monkeys paw. This will always be the case. If everything is illegal then nothing is.
Individual action means absolutely nothing. This person shouldn’t be disparaged for making money for themselves and their family. Every single big corp that pays well is creating the torment nexus. You have to pick your poison. I personally draw the line at missiles and mass surveillance.
You may want to view action and sphere of influence. Does an individual have international or national influence? Probably not. How about within their community, home, or person? Probably, yes.
I want a good society and I think that’s will be made up of good individuals making individual action. So to me, this all starts at home with the individual’s sphere of influence.
Hilariously, the website hosting the post you are currently commenting on is Social Media by almost any definition. Autocracy and autocratic thinking are never the solution. You don’t know what’s best for everyone.
Not really. By a broad definition, yes. But here there is no algorithmic filtering of what you see based on data about you that is tracked and data about you purchased from data brokers. Nor is there a team of psychologists constantly working on ways to hit your dopamine triggers and keep you engaged.
But that isn't the main issue with Discord, either, despite their attempts to add features like the ICYMI tab. The problem of Discord is more in the social than the media.
Social media has none of that. Sometimes it is conflated with that as Facebook was social media for the first five minutes of its life, until they realized you can't make money with social media and quickly pivoted.
LLM’s and Agents are merely a tool to be wielded by a competent engineer. A very sophisticated tool, but a tool nonetheless. Maybe it’s because I live in the South East, as far away as I can possibly get from the echo chamber (on purpose), but I don’t see this changing anytime soon.
Looks like they forgot the part of the code editor where you can… edit code. Claude Code in Zed is about the most optimal experience I can imagine. I want the agent on the side and a code editor in the middle.
That’s not really a negative for me as I can easily jump into vscode where I already have my workspace for coding set up exactly as I like it. This being a completely separate app just to get the agentic work right is a good direction imo
Yeah but its annoying to find the file the agent just edited without any IDE/editor integration, you have to add that command which opens the file in vscode after editing.
For greenfield apps you can vibecode it. For existing complex apps, where existing products where customers pay us a lot of money for working software, understanding the changes and context surrounding them in the code is critical or else nobody knows how the system works anymore and maintenance and support becomes impossible.
Whatever the case may be, this has nothing to do with morals, but rather with classification of it as an "extraordinary" ability. Talking about that, instead of seething and name-calling, you could show us your extraordinary ability to go back to Reddit.
