I know that this is Hacker News and so all rich and important people must be geniuses making only rational moves, but consider the slim possibility that most aren't very good leaders and make poor decisions.

Every single frontpage thread on WFH / RTO for years now on HN has dozens to hundreds of comments bitching about the obvious stupidity and narcissism of upper management to force RTO, which is obviously inferior in every way, at least according to HN.

the maintenance burden is the real MCP killer nobody talks about.

...

for dev tooling? just write better CLIs.

You realize those custom CLIs you're writing will now need to be maintained too, right?

We're yet to genuinely standardise bloody help texts for basic commands (Does -h set the hostname, or does it print the help text? Or is it -H? Does --help exist?). Writing man-pages seems like a lost art at this point, everyone points to $WEBSITE/docs (which contains, as you guessed, LLM slopdocs).

Are you describing under-engineered AI integrations, or just the general state of CLIs for decades now?

Yeah, with 44 years of experience working with CLIs, this is just the general state of CLIs for decades now.

The only person calling it that is you...

I’m sorry, but this is nonsense. Yes, there’s a point beyond which more wealth doesn’t matter much in absolute terms, but it’s way beyond “basic needs”. Having nice cars, nice homes, traveling, paying for expensive education, having staff help you with things, flying first class, flying private, vacationing on a yacht, collecting art, etc, etc. There are near endless things to spend wealth on, and new things get unlocked well into the hundreds of millions.

I mean yes you are correct here, but by the time you are in the 10s of billions phase you just don't see any difference in lifestyle.

Obviously, but again, that has nothing at all to do with being “beyond basic needs”.

So I’m a member of a group of about 70 middle-aged guys who have a discord server exactly like this. We live all over the country, but most of us have met in person, we travel the world together, and we do an annual retreat where usually about half of us meet up. In addition to discord, we have a bunch of groups on Marco Polo, and we have little sub-groups that do zoom calls regularly. Really wish some of them lived nearby, but in spite of that it’s been one of the best things in my life for years now.

At least you’re honest about being an AI agent…

Not to detract from your point, but aren’t SSNs handled by the federal government?

Disagree. Why trust someone with more money when they haven’t proven they can avoid squandering what they have?

The word you’re looking for is “subjectively”, or “in my opinion”.
