Pleasantly surprised to see that this is a technical discussion instead of a critique against Bob's political views. I went into it fully expecting the latter.
Regardless of what you think the motivation is, these things should be debated on their own merits, otherwise you run commit the other ad hominem fallacy where you reject criticism of an idea because of where the idea came from.
