Show HN: Domfetch.com - free tool to find expired domains with history (domfetch.com)

We have finally launched Domfetch!

Domfetch is a free platform to find expired domains. Users can search through domains that are (almost) available for registration. We enrich these domains with extra data to help users find valuable domains.

We created this tool because we found the (free) alternatives lacking certain data, such as Moz, Alexa history (we check 5 years of data) & search volume history over a period of 1 year.

Let us know what you think! More features and tld's will be added in the near future.

Expired domains: https://domfetch.com/expired-domains

Deleted domains: https://domfetch.com/deleted-domains

Domain metrics examples:

Roadmap wise, our short team plan is to improve the filters (next few days). Think of min/max length, moz da etc.

The plan for the next few weeks/months is to add more metrics, one of them being Majestic Million data & improving keyword & language recognition + registration detection of domains. Besides that, adding other metrics, adding marketplaces & support for more TLD's.

I'm surprised this didn't get more traction.

I just tried out several searches and I'm really impressed with the results! And the whole site loads super fast.

Ironically you don't have a great brand name for it though. I guess 'dom' is short for domain, but dom also has a different meaning in web dev lingo, so that's kind of confusing.

Thanks for the feedback. Re: name, we'll do some brainstorming!

Ah, the DOM! I was thinking about BDSM too :)

Well, our plan is to dominate the domain space, so... I guess it works?!

This is great! On minor thing: you should scroll to the top of the page when the next button is clicked.

I found some not so terrible domains that are actually available:

repofire.com - Sounds like one of those named security exploit websites

startrekfirstcontact.com - Need I say more?

mscave.com - Man cave for the misses

mailomega.com - Ship via USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL and more!

healthwestern.com - Sounds like a legit business

rethical.com - Tethics but with an R

shopfitr.com - Web 2.0 clothes shopping

cokego.com - Coke in an easier to carry can so you can do cool stuff

xscut.com - As seen on TV exercise machine or diet pill

coughbank.com - What were they thinking?

blingstack.com - The latest craze in web development: bash, linux, indigestion, netcat, and ghostscript

bankwestbank.com - Banking services by the Department of Redundancy Department

myonefamily.com - Anti DNA testing lobby group

itsorigin.com - Prequel to It the movie

awayget.com - Vacations for dyslexics

I'll see myself out...

We’ll definitely implement your suggestion, looks like you had a proper go at testing our site! Loved your list of domains and notes, many thanks for that!

bankwestbank.com - Banking services by the Department of Redundancy Department

this made me laugh out loud so thanks.

Bankwest is a 2nd tier Australian Bank that controls bankwest.com - so I suspect this domain may have been used for a phishing campaign.

https://bankwest.com.au

Good tool though!

A major problem is those who need find a good expired domain typically can't find any good ones through these tools. I mean, if you are experienced enough, you should know the good ones will be always back-ordered by others, or scraped by millions of people around the world, 24/7 non stop, and register them immediately after seen as useful ones.

Those domain squatter grab 99.99% good domains before you can even register them, so yeah, this industry is really harsh and reality is cruel now. That being said, I hope this tool succeed!

I've actually had quite a lot of success, then again, I don't go for the top premium domains but still manage to find other valuable domains that I manage to snap up without doing backorders. So far it's been profitable for me.

Looks like a cool tool

I used https://www.expireddomains.net/ in the past but their filter and UI isn't that great :D

Thanks! Expired Domains is a great tool, but indeed, their UI isn't superb. That being said, we still have a lot of things that can (and will) be improved too.

Can also check if twitter/reddit/yt/fb/+ socials of the domain is used?

Also, on each domain page, carry over all its data from the table to be seen again.

I’ll add this, good suggestion, thanks!
