It's the shortest day/longest night of the year in the northern hemisphere today, do something special to escape the darkness. The days will start to get longer as we head towards the summer solstice.

For those of us in the states, stay safe with all the storms coming!

Also it's the 4th day of Hanukkah. Happy Hanukkah!

Shameless promotion: The 4th day of Hanukkah means that the 4th puzzle is available in Hanukkah of Data: https://hanukkah.bluebird.sh/5783/

Happy Feast Day of St. Peter Canisius, Priest and Doctor of the Church!

Or, if you follow the old Roman calendar, Happy Feast Day of St. Thomas, Apostle of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

Thanks! It's also my daughters birthday (9 yesterday) so I always remember it. I celebrated by eating cake, cuddling my kids, listening to music and listening to the audio book biography of the dark lord himself Tony Iommi.

It's also Yalda night in some Western Asian cultures: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yald%C4%81_Night

As I write this, the solstice is about half an hour away, at twelve minutes to the hour. When it arrives, pause to ponder the enormity - and the angular momentum - of the planet located not far below your feet.

Maybe in a day or two, when we can safely confirm the days are getting longer, we should have a special festival to denote that fact. ;-)
