Elon Musk seizes X account from guy who owned it (futurism.com)

This seems like one of the Elon fluff stories.

Twitter/X offers a new handle and some swag because they’re changing their name and now want the corresponding handle. They obviously own the namespace, and handles get swapped or banned and changed and whatnot all the time. It’s always been against the TOS to sell them, I think. The only complaint seems to be what, they didn’t offer money?

But it’s all dressed up in punchy language to get you to tut-tut Elon and click to make yourself angry and reinforce your beliefs.

Hey, don’t know if you remember our debate. You said climate change was going away, I said it would get worse. I think I was right.

xoxo

Baffling that could have been your takeaway! Clearly we shouldn’t be having discussions because we aren’t able to understand each other. Let’s please no longer interact. HN should allow blocking!

You said temperatures had plateaued and would not increase. I said they would and only seemed to plateau due to El Niño/la Nina cycles. I was right.

I did not.

You said, “I mean you can see it plateauing in that data. Feels good to me!”

Are you feeling good about it today?

Was I referring to temperatures? Is plateauing past tense?

You said that we are on the right track and that you felt good about it. Don’t try to muddy the waters. Do you still believe we are on the right track?

I will not continue this discussion unless you answer my two questions with yes or no.

It's clear you won't state your position clearly. It's really simple, do you believe as you said that things are good and that we are on the right track? You said that, then you muddy the water when pressed on it. What do you believe?

I asked first, and would still like to know if you think we are on the right track as you said in the previous thread. I see reasons to be hopeful, but we are not on the right track right now. What do you believe, are we on the right track?

The core of the issue is whether you think we are on the right track. Yes or no.

I'll just leave some facts here since you won't say if you think we are on the right track or not.

2023 is now on track to see the highest levels of carbon dioxide output in human history - https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/jul/20/emission...

July 2023 set to be world's hottest month on record - https://www.reuters.com/business/environment/july-2023-set-b...

The facts speak for themselves. I’m happy to leave it at that.

In case anybody else happens to read this cursed thread, the issue is that this guy failed to understand what I was saying in a previous discussion, did a drive by on a later one where he fully 100% misrepresented what I said, refused to acknowledge the misunderstanding, refused to think critically about what he was saying, and went off feeling proud of himself for pointing out that global warming has not stopped cold in its tracks. This is absolutely maddening and shameful behavior, and nobody should have to endure such proud idiocy.

What I previously claimed was that emissions were plateauing. Which means that we are slowing the annual increase in greenhouse emissions. This makes sense because in developed countries we are getting more efficient, as measured by per-capita greenhouse emissions decreasing. If this continues and spreads to less developed countries (as it is economically and politically incentivized to do) it will "plateau" and stop rising. Stopping rising carbon emissions is a necessary prerequisite to lowering them. Neither stopping emissions from rising nor lowering emissions will keep temperature from rising. To do that, we need to achieve zero net carbon emissions. When that occurs, the earth will remain at its current temperature (although there is a decade or so lag time I believe between emissions and temperatures). Then we must remove carbon from the atmosphere to return to whatever global temperature we decide is appropriate.

I look at this and see that we are indeed taking some of the steps to solve the problem. It is not the case that nothing is happening and everything is getting worse. I wish we were solving it faster, and I certainly support investing in sweeping policy reforms to move to renewable energy as soon as possible.

But to jshen, who refused to think about any of the details and elected instead to be an ignorant asshole: go fuck yourself and please, I beg you, never talk to me again.

This is a direct quote from you, “I mean you can see it plateauing in that data. Feels good to me!”

Reality, 2023 is now on track to see the highest levels of carbon dioxide output in human history

So, when do they offer some money ?

Considering the history and the era of digital identity we find ourselves in. I'm not sure this is wholly appropriate to just expect from a platform?
