Simplifying our payment apps in the U.S. (blog.google)

I just got a similar email and I literally don’t understand what is changing.

Are both “deals” (rewards based on credit card numbers and transaction data sent to Google) and P2P payments going away for everybody? Only in the US? Only on iOS?

Is “changes to X” now a euphemism for Google discontinuing X?

(googler, opinions are my own.)

I agree that this seems poorly worded. It does seem the GPay app in the US has been deprecated. Meaning all functionality is either going away or migrating elsewhere. This would impact iOS and Android.

Wallet is still around for tap and pay, and mobile wallet stuff.

P2P transfers are going away entirely in the US. Offers/deals are moving to search.

The primary announcement in here:

> Changes to peer-to-peer payments: As of June 4, 2024, you will no longer be able to send, request or receive money from others through the U.S. version of the Google Pay app.

I used this one frequently. Any other U.S. users have recommendations for something else?
