I think, at this point, I'm no longer interested in joining a social media site or forum that is profit-motivated in some way. Like I'm only really on Lemmy these days or HN. I deleted my reddit account when the recommendation algorithm started to just serve me outrageous and angry content. I deleted Facebook and Instagram after Zuckerberg started kissing the ring with the white house.
I just think that more websites that sell tons of ads and whose administrators are more motivated by gathering eyeballs than building a community is not the solution to our problems with big tech
Interesting gambit. Based on how many reddit users just accept randomly generated names, I'm wondering how much they tested the hypothesis that people are willing to pay for a username.
