LLMs Are Short-Circuiting. What Comes Next? (forbes.com/sites/hessiejones)

What comes next? A stock market crash. Most of the capital gains over the past 3 years or so are related to and have been fueled by AI investments and speculation.

This was all totally predictable. We have no practical definition of "intelligence" but it should be intuitively obvious that it is not primarily a statistical function.

You can't build something that you don't understand and can't define. "Emergence" is the modern equivalent of alchemy --- pure wishful thinking without any rational basis.

A.t best, LLMs are idiot savants --- like "Rain Man". They can recall lots of data but they have a very poor grasp of reality. They may have the statistics to tell you that a candy bar doesn't cost about $100 --- but they really don't understand why. It's insane to give something like this authority or responsibility.
