It’s been a long time since all this was ruled on before, it feels like. What is the opposition argument? Is it that “marriage” is a concept they view as being already defined by tradition and just don’t want that word reused this way? Or is it that they wouldn’t support legal recognition of gay marriages in any way, even if it were called something else? In other words is this about the words used or gating the potential legal benefits of marriages?
